How is this different from a normal dog life jacket?
Most life jackets keep the body up but let the head drop when a dog tires. The padded float under the chin is the whole point of this one: it holds the head clear of the water the moment they stop paddling.
How snug should the jacket feel?
You should be able to slide two fingers beneath the straps. The jacket should not rotate around the body or restrict breathing.
Can my dog wear it for the first time in deep water?
No. Introduce it on dry land, then in calm shallow water while you stay within reach.
Can I lift my dog by the handle alone?
Use the handle for quick assistance and support your dog's body whenever you can. Do not suspend a dog for longer than necessary.
What if my dog sits between two sizes?
Take the larger one. Chest girth is the deciding measurement, not weight, because two dogs of the same weight can be shaped very differently.
